How Awaji High School tought their students about Disaster Risk Reduction
Risk awareness at school is part of Japan’s strategy to promote Nationwide Commitment to Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). The main objective is that of enhancing the capacities of students and schoolchildren of all ages to actively contribute to DRR initiatives in their local communities. Drawing from past disaster experiences, risk awareness is enhanced through the development of practical skills and routine disaster education at school in order to take action when a disaster strikes.
Awaji High School has been collaborating with YUNGA Japan since 2020 to integrate their regular DRR lessons with a more global perspective. The YUNGA Badge program runs for three months through which the students learn the best DRR practices of both Japan and the world with activities and group work.
